Straight on at roundabout

A sunny autumn ride

Saturday 7 November 2009  After a week back commuting into London I was feeling a bit rusty.  And my general slowness was not helped by Dan’s 18th birthday party on Friday night.

But the sun was shining and Saturday chores done I dragged the bike out.

Getting out of Rickmansworth seems to be a bit of a chore at the moment.  M25 roadworks have closed a back road out of Maple Cross and although the detour via Chalfont St Peter is quite short it seems to be quite hard work.

However, once you turn into Chalfont St Giles and do the short climb after the pub into Bottrels Lane it gets a bit more civilised.  Quickly leaving houses behind and switching between woods and open fields.

A fast drop down to the A355 then a sharp climb up Magpie Lane towards Holmer Green.  Along Marrods Bottom past a shoot run by rosy-faced men wearing the sort of ‘country’ clothing I’ve only ever seen on sale at Point to Point meetings.

Little MissendenLanes lined with copper beeches to Great Kings Hill and a drop to Little Missenden.  Over the busy A413 to climb up to Hyde Heath before dropping down to Chesham.  Up through Flaunden and then home via Sarratt and Croxley Green.
